Case studies within VR environments offer a compelling way to examine real-world applications of gender theories. By creating virtual scenarios that reflect the nuances of everyday life, developers can immerse users in situations that prompt reflection and critical analysis of gender dynamics. For example, a VR simulation could depict a workplace scenario where gender-based discrimination or bias occurs, allowing users to navigate through different perspectives and outcomes.

As part of the project, we have delved into the realm of virtual reality (VR) to examine the deconstruction of traditional gender norms. Below are some of the activities and case studies we have conducted during the project.

• Reading articles related to deconstruction of traditional gender norms.

  

  • To understand the broad spectrum of gender theories and virtual reality, we have researched various articles relating to Queer Theory, intersectionality, and LGBTQ rights and identities. These helped our team to build the fundamental knowledge of gender theories that can be applied to the project.

• Learning and researching more about gender, especially genders different from our own & creating space for humans in our academic or personal life to share gender pronouns.

  • We engaged in self-reflection to deepen our understanding of gender diversity and inclusivity.

• Employing our power and privilege for good. Reflecting on our own feelings and experiences.

  • During the project, we actively reflected on our own feelings and experiences, acknowledging the role we play in challenging existing power structures.

• Watching the video regarding LGBTQ+ VR Museum

  

  • Since we dealt with the identities and rights of LGBTQ, we had to understand what they think about the society, and what kinds of perspectives they have. So, by watching various video clips regarding the collaboration of Queer theory and virtual reality, we could understand them more deeply and also broaden our knowledge when developing VR platform.
