Project Objective
Project XR is a VR application coupled with an AI agent designed to help individuals overcome and cope with traumas, fears, and personal issues. By leveraging AI, the app can recognize and respond to users’ emotional cues in real time, providing personalized guidance that adapts to individual needs. Additionally, with the integration of Emotion Regulation Training (ERT) and Cognitive Reappraisal Skills Training (CRST) the application is able to support users in developing healthier cognitive routines. By combining the VR and web applications the client can use the data to personalize user experiences, identify patterns gaining deeper insights into individual behaviors, and will contribute to the research in evaluating AI's strengths and limitations. The objective is to help users achieve a balanced state of mind, recognizing that changing thought patterns can significantly affect emotional well-being.
Team Objective
The team working on Machine Learning will come up with a model for classifying and clustering based on machine learning used to detect the feelings of users as they use VR app. They do this specifically by looking at the emotions expressed during conversations between individuals and either an AI or human consultant. In this course of action, scholars are expected not just to acquire skills on collecting, cleaning, transforming and visualizing data but also dig deeper into various algorithms as well as models used in machine learning that help explain why some persons perceive their engagements with machines differently from others who may be equally engaged but perceive such engagements through other people’s presence.

About Client
GIST VR LAB is a creative lab at Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Transformational Play (CTP). It is overseen by Professor Jessica Hammer who has won many awards including World Economic Forum Young Scientist award and Okawa Award for her work in extended reality (XR), game design, psychology and health technologies. She has also been supported by various organizations like the Heinz Foundation, Google, Amazon, NSF etc., which provide funds for different research projects.
The main goal of GIST VR Lab project is focused on developing AI combined with Virtual Reality technology applications towards promoting wellbeing specifically dealing with self-critical thoughts as well as stress management. In addition to that it strives to create an innovative environment where emotional aspects are taken care through sleep patterns among others suchlike immersive virtual reality environments can be utilized self-efficacy while enhancing self-esteem too.
